Our research initiatives build the knowledge base for SGB support organizations to improve their effectiveness and create thriving entrepreneurial ecosystems.
ANDE and Bridge for Billions have partnered to strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems across Africa. The initiative will update ecosystem maps, analyze key data and provide strategic tools to improve support for small and growing businesses. As part of this initiative, a regional study will be conducted to evaluate Entrepreneur Support Organizations (ESOs), with the goal of identifying critical challenges and uncovering opportunities for enhanced collaboration within the sector.
Kenya’s waste management and circularity sector is rapidly emerging as a critical area for sustainable investment. Across the ten sub-sectors and 122 businesses identified within this space in KOIS and ANDE’s Introductory Guide to Investing in the Waste and Circularity Sector in Kenya , four key sub-sectors have demonstrated particularly high potential for investment.
ANDE’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Maps provide a never-before-seen glimpse into the players within entrepreneurial ecosystems, allowing stakeholders to access a full list of organizations supporting entrepreneurship in a given geography, including investors, donors, capacity development providers (such as accelerators, incubators, business training programs, etc.), academic institutions, government agencies, media, and more.

ANDE defines advocacy as the dynamic, systematic, and opportunistic process of persuading, partnering, and influencing relevant and clearly defined stakeholders to maximize the capacity of the SGB sector.
ANDE has joined the Foundation and Alliances Task Force under Startup20 South Africa. Startup20 serves as the official G20 Engagement Group focused on global entrepreneurship, emphasizing startups, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and innovation ecosystems.
ANDE, in collaboration with the Kenya Association of Waste Recyclers, is leading the Policy Working Group on the Circular Economy. The working group has held several meetings, including both virtual and in-person sessions. The Multisectoral Policy Working Group (PWG) on the Circular Economy brings together stakeholders to address policy barriers in the waste sector, with a focus on creating an enabling environment for circular practices. Organizations represented in the working group include VSO Kenya, TechnoServe, Kenya Climate Innovation Centre, GFS East Africa, UNICEF, Bopinc, Gjenge Makers, and CAPYEI.
