8 Key Insights from Climate 101: Why is a Corporate Climate Lens Essential for ESO?

We recently hosted an insightful virtual event, “ANDE Climate 101: The Importance of Adopting the Climate Perspective for ESOs, Enterprises, and Entrepreneurs,” on August 29, 2023. This event brought together experts and thought leaders who shed light on the critical intersection of climate action and entrepreneurship. We were honored to have Roots Incubation Program, alongside Patter and Pamela from SME Climate Hub, share their wisdom on this imperative subject.

Here are eight key takeaways that highlight the significance of adopting a corporate climate lens for ESOs, businesses, and entrepreneurs:

ESO’s mission revolves around People Development, Local Growth Promotion, and Decentralization Advocacy. Assess Climate Risks and Opportunities: It’s paramount to conduct a climate risk assessment to understand the potential impacts of climate change on the business. Identify vulnerabilities in the supply chain, operations, and market dynamics. Simultaneously, explore opportunities for innovation and growth in sectors related to climate solutions.

Fostering Change at the Roots:  To build an impactful society and address climate change businesses need to acknowledge the importance of adopting critical perspectives such as Humanism, Community Engagement, Sustainability and Socioeconomic and Environmental Considerations. Root Incubation on a mission to empower youth, shaping them into community leaders with vital skills.

The goal? To breathe new life into the economic landscape.

Root Incubation sprouted from visionary entrepreneurs fueled by a desire to spread happiness and reshape prosperity within their communities. Root Incubation firmly believes that individuals should recognize the needs of their communities and actively contribute to their betterment, offering their services for the collective benefit.

Unlocking Resources: Commitment to the cause unlocks a treasure trove of resources, including a Climate Education Course for Businesses (Climate 101), a Business Carbon Calculator, a Financial Support Guide, and a variety of reporting tools.

In essence, the corporate climate lens is not just a tool but our guiding star, leading us towards a future rooted in sustainability, nurturing business growth, and collectively crafting a greener, eco-conscious world.

Incorporating climate sustainability practices into business operations yields dual benefits: a reduction in both operational costs and business risks. These strategies encompass a range of actions, such as diversifying supply chains, adopting renewable energy sources, and implementing disaster preparedness measures. These initiatives not only bolster a company’s ability to withstand climate-related challenges but also enhance overall cost-efficiency, ensuring long-term sustainability

More Growth and More Trust: Prioritizing climate change can yield a myriad of advantages. It sparks innovation within organizations, granting them an edge in a competitive landscape. Such commitment also opens doors to sustainable markets, resulting in increased profitability and brand loyalty. Moreover, businesses at the forefront of climate action are perceived as industry leaders, enhancing their reputation and influence. In an era where Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance is paramount, climate-conscious companies attract investor interest and form partnerships with socially responsible stakeholders. Additionally, focusing on climate change helps attract and retain top talent, as individuals increasingly seek to work for organizations actively contributing to societal and environmental betterment. In essence, placing climate change at the core of business strategies leads to more growth, innovation, market access, and trust, fostering a positive societal and environmental impact.

Consumer Demand Driving Climate-Conscious Practices: The burgeoning consumer demand for eco-friendly products and services is steering entrepreneurs and businesses towards embracing climate-conscious practices, and the ripple effects are transformative. This shift not only leads to increased sales and profitability but also fuels innovation, giving companies a competitive edge in the market. Simultaneously, shifts in investor behavior and evolving regulatory landscapes are further motivating entrepreneurs to make long-term sustainability a priority. As consumers increasingly align their values with their purchasing decisions, businesses are compelled to adapt, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and responsible future.

Integrate Action: Small businesses (SGBs) stand to gain numerous advantages by embracing a climate sustainability focus. They can enhance their operational efficiency, reduce waste, and become more energy-conscious, all of which lead to cost reductions while contributing positively to the climate. Furthermore, evolving expectations from consumers, partners, and governments now prioritize sustainability. This shift not only aligns businesses with market demands but also opens doors to increased access to financing and favorable contract terms from larger buyers committed to their carbon reduction goals. This ripple effect extends benefits throughout the ecosystem, driving sustainable practices across supply chains and fostering a greener, more resilient future.
