Kasipreneur Impact Project

KIP is a partnership between ANDE, the African Management Institute, and the Walmart Foundation to boost township entrepreneurship in South Africa. Built on research by ANDE, GIBS, and AMI’s field expertise, the project delivers data-driven, practical support for small business growth.

KIP is a holistic, entrepreneur-centered program aimed at empowering township business owners—known as Kasipreneurs in South Africa- by equipping them with practical tools, skills, funding opportunities, and access to robust support networks. The program also focuses on strengthening the capabilities of ESOs to provide impactful, tailored support to local entrepreneurs, thereby reinforcing the broader township economic ecosystem.

The overarching goal of KIP is to develop and scale an effective model for township enterprise development. This model is driven by partnerships with corporate South Africa, enabling them to support and uplift their primary distributors within townships. By doing so, these corporates can foster business resilience, unlock market growth, and improve route-to-market strategies. Furthermore, the project seeks to generate evidence-based insights that inform best practices for business support, guide donor investments, and shape public policy at local, regional, and global levels.
