Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE), GIZ together with SIDBI is facilitating an online event through the RSF to connect waste management enterprises with financial institutions. The event will bring together businesses, and financial institutions to discuss opportunities in offering loans in composting, recycling, bio-methanation, RDF, and material recovery technologies (PAN India). By creating space for direct interactions, the aim is to build partnerships, open access to finance new and existing projects, and explore the untapped potential of India’s circular economy.

Background & Context

The “Waste solutions for Circular Economy” project is supported by a joint climate action program- MAF (Mitigation Action Facility) formerly known as NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action) Facility and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the European Union. This project is working with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) as nodal Ministry and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as partner Ministry. The project is operating in 5 geographies- Patna, Varanasi, State of Goa, Bengaluru & Tiruchirappalli with local and state governments as partners.

The Risk Sharing Facility (RSF), implemented by SIDBI under the CWS Project is designed to ease access to finance for waste sector enterprises in India. By offering credit guarantees on loans provided by lending financial institutions (LFIs), the RSF reduces collateral requirements and de-risks investments in municipal solid waste management projects.

The RSF host SIDBI offers partial credit guarantees of up to 50% on loans up to 6 Crore INR, helping reduce collateral requirements and giving lenders more confidence to invest on debt financing extended by LFIs to municipal solid waste management (MSWM) enterprises working in the composting, bio-methanation plants, recycling, RDF and material recovery facilities technologies
