The working group brings together members and experts in ANDE East Africa’s network to collaboratively develop strategies to support an entrepreneurial ecosystem focused on decent work initiatives.
ANDE aims to support small and growing businesses as creators of safe, fulfilling, and sustainable work. This aligns with SDG 8, where Decent Work and Economic Growth has become a rallying cry for practitioners aiming to boost entrepreneurship as a means of economic and social development. Decent work is central to reducing poverty and is a path to achieving equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development. The different ecosystem players, especially the SGBs, help create jobs. However, the question is, are they good jobs? At the same time, are the Entrepreneurs Support Organizations supporting the SGBs effectively in their quest to create quality and decent jobs?
Goals of the Decent Work Working Group
- To build the capacity of Entrepreneur support organizations and other key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and equip them with key tools required to foster high-quality jobs within the small and growing businesses (SGBs) ecosystem.
- Identify practical measurement solutions and conceptual clarity when measuring decent work.

The inception meeting for the working group was held in June, where the participants contributed suggestions to shape the goals and priorities for ANDE East Africa. The second session was held on 29th August; participants engaged in shaping the short-term and long-term goals of the working group as part of the action plan. The working group has representatives from 9 organizations. Meetings are held after every two months.
