Missed the Nairobi conference? Join ANDE’s first-ever Metrics from the Ground Up virtual learning series, featuring dynamic sessions on impact measurement that didn’t fit into the in-person agenda. Over the next three months, learn from global experts, explore rigorous MEL practices, and connect with peers—online and free to attend.

In May, ANDE convened global impact measurement leaders in Nairobi for Metrics from the Ground Up, a vibrant in-person conference exploring the challenges and innovations in measuring entrepreneurial support. But the conversation doesn’t end there. ANDE is proud to launch the first-ever virtual Metrics from the Ground Up learning series, designed to keep learnings flowing and feature valuable session ideas that didn’t fit into the Nairobi program.

Over the next three months, this virtual series will highlight diverse voices, share practical tools, and dive into key themes for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) professionals across the small and growing business (SGB) sector. With speakers from organizations leading systems-change work and pioneering impact evaluation methods, each session offers a chance to dig deeper, connect with peers, and co-create solutions.

Upcoming Sessions

June 10 | 9:00 AM ET TechnoServe

How Can We Measure Impact Using Systems Approaches?

Measuring impact in direct-service programs is complex enough. But when entrepreneurial support shifts toward systemic approaches—working through government, markets, and civil society—the measurement challenge multiplies. In this session, TechnoServe will share lessons from ecosystem-building programs in Kenya, Rwanda, Benin, and Mozambique, and lead small-group discussions on overcoming shared measurement barriers. Participants will leave with practical strategies to adapt MEL for systems-level initiatives.

June 12 | 12:00 PM ET Root Capital

Root Capital’s MEL Approaches

We will showcase rigorous evaluation methodologies used to assess impact in agricultural finance, including econometric studies and correlational analysis. The session will emphasize why relying on output metrics or perception surveys can be misleading without deeper analysis. Participants will gain a candid look at both the promise and pitfalls of impact measurement in the investment space—and how transparency and rigor must guide our sector’s next steps.
