BetterStories is a premium future building agency that works in the areas of Smart Technology, Strategic Consulting, and StartUp Ecosystem Building. It has three verticals: Better Strategies, Better Entrepreneurs, and Better Schools. BetterStories was established in 2009 jointly by a woman entrepreneur, a development professional, and an environmentalist to work on an ambitious goal of creating a whole new generation of leaders for Bangladesh through entrepreneurship. The BetterStories mission is - “On a mission to change the narrative of Bangladesh - One StartUp at a Time!” The BetterStories vision to create at least 1000 leaders by 2021 was achieved through Green, Ethical and Responsible Businesses (GERB). BetterStories firmly believes in the potential of Bangladesh becoming an upper middle-income country by 2021 and an advanced economy by 2041 In 2017, we collaborated with the Netherlands Government and Aavishkaar India to implement the 2017 version of Bangladesh StartUp Cup called the Bangladesh StartUp Cup phase 1 – where we focused on building SME/StartUp ecosystem in the divisional cities and making SMEs bankable and investment ready. In 2018 we collaborated with IFC in Dhaka to bring ScaleUp Bangladesh which was a 12-month long investment readiness accelerator program to help SGBs (Small & Growing Businesses) in Bangladesh become Scalable, Investment Ready and Climate Resilient, with support from Aavishkar, Grameenphone Accelerator, British Council, PUM.NL and Climate Business Innovation Network of InfoDev by the World Bank Group. Under the ScaleUp Bangladesh program, we have conducted an intensive outreach in Barisal, Khulna, Chittagong. We had received 339 applications from all over the country for our accelerator program. Under this program we have implemented a 3 week long residential bootcamp with a custom made curriculum. Our cohort received intensive mentoring program, access to experts, and links to investors and the broader reach to the BetterStories network. With ScaleUp Bangladesh we were able to reach entrepreneurs who have 2 – 200 employees and were looking for 1 to 5 million dollars’ worth of investment. Over last decade, we have served many clients in Bangladesh and abroad – mostly from the development and private sector.
