FTA will add value to the ANDE ecosystem through its linkages with a global system connecting farmers and workers through Producer organizations/SGBs from sourcing countries with consumers and businesses across the world committed to changing trade for the better. FTA will bring on board over 660 Fairtrade certified producer organizations (Small and Growing businesses (SGBs) in 28 countries in Africa and the Middle East. FTA is owned by its members, who are producer organizations producing traditional export commodities such as coffee, cocoa, flowers, tea, cotton, wine, bananas, sugar, fresh fruits, herbs and spices and non-traditional commodities including shea butter, honey, and rooibos among others. FTA represents 1,354,294 individual farmers and workers. Fairtrade Africa is the trading name for Commerce Equitable Afrique (CEA), a company limited by guarantee and registered in Kenya. The Secretariat is based in Nairobi, and works through four regional networks with legally established offices in Kenya, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Malawi and South Africa and a pool of 125 staff on the ground supporting the producer organizations in targeted programmes and projects. This structure which is already tried and tested will complement ANDE’s programmes delivery in Africa.
