While evidence on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis is only beginning to emerge, it is clear that the economic damage has been particularly severe for Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) in emerging markets. Given the importance of SGBs to economic growth and job creation, supporting these businesses must be a critical part of global recovery. In addition to the impact on the SGBS, ANDE is particularly interested in strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystems that allow SGBs to grow and thrive. We believe that capacity development organizations (CDOs) will have an even more critical role to play in the post-crisis economy than before. Our research efforts have shown that CDOs, particularly those based in emerging markets, are facing severe pressures to transform and adapt their services to the new reality brought on by the coronavirus crisis.

With support from the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation, we will build on our 2020 workshop series and focus on delivering targeted services to the SGB sector while creating stronger collaboration, delivering capacity development and connecting the organizations to relevant resources.
