Mumtaz Faleel
Country Director at World University Service of Canada (WUSC - EUMC)

Mumtaz launched her career in the development sector over 15 years ago and has worked toward gender equality, prevention of gender based violence as well as social inclusion for over a decade. She has implemented programmes that supported women affected by the civil conflict attain legal identities to access resources, formed strong alliances to support survivors of childhood sexual abuse in rescue, recovery, reintegration and advocacy; established Sri Lanka’s first trauma informed residential Reintegration Centre for teenage survivors. She also worked with sector experts to influence improved policy reforms and practice on better support systems, life skills programmes and after care for institutionalized children both in contact and in conflict of the law. Mumtaz is a US International Visitor Leadership Program Alumna on Human Rights and Advocacy and is the Country Director for World University Service of Canada – An INGO working towards the economic and social empowerment of youth in Sri Lanka through a gender transformative programme. Her current work includes capacity strengthening a cross section of partners on introducing sustainable strategies on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, young women’s economic empowerment, prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Gender Lens Investing and using Finance as a strategy for social change.
