JOB PURPOSE

Miller Center aims to support our social enterprise partners in raising the funds they need to scale their impact. To do this, we are:

• Offering deeper accompaniment to our highest potential social enterprise partners,
• Cultivating and formalizing deeper partnerships with aligned impact investors, and
• Strategically deploying catalytic capital to bridge gaps and crowd in investment to support our social enterprise accelerator alumni.

The Impact Investing Senior Manager will serve as a thought leader on impact investing, manage the implementation of our investment readiness and facilitation programs, contribute to the evolution and scaling of the Miller Center Invest fund, and lead Miller Center’s internal screening and due diligence processes. Practical work will also include student analyst and volunteer mentor management.

We are looking for a highly organized, dynamic individual with specialized impact investing knowledge, who is passionate about supporting social entrepreneurs in ending poverty and protecting the planet, to join our team and lead our impact investing programming efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Management (30%)

• Provide strategic direction and create implementation plans for impact investment accompaniment programs
• Lead pipeline review process and selection of program participants
• Update and develop curriculum to support mentors and entrepreneurs through the impact investing accompaniment program
• Monitor trends in social entrepreneurship and impact investing to ensure the ongoing relevancy of Miller Center accelerator programs
• Maintain a database of impact investors and their investment presence and history, and support Miller Center’s Impact Investment partners in identification of relevant deal flow
• Ensure that programs align with diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
• Actively manage and contribute to investment accompaniment engagements

Investment Analysis and Landscaping (35%)

• Lead Miller Center’s internal screening and due diligence process and pipeline management
• Manage student analyst interns and guide their contributions to Miller Center’s investment research and due diligence process, including the generation of investment memos.
• Lead the creation of post-investment support plans for relevant social enterprises
• Create and communicate actionable feedback for non-admitted social enterprises

Catalytic Capital Investment Fund Support (25%)

• Collaborate on the evolution and structuring of an impact investment facility to drive investment to Miller Center social enterprises
• Work with fund manager to support the funds operations, investment, and investor reporting activities

Other Programmatic Work (10%)

• Provide program management support to other Miller Center programs
• Market research of social enterprises, investors, accelerators
• Support funding proposals
• Direct programs and events including mentor trainings, accelerator in-residence sessions, and in-country partner workshops
• Help advance and support the ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments of Miller Center
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Understands the Impact Investing ecosystem well enough to be able to communicate with various stakeholder groups directly
• Understands investment processes to a degree that allows for conduct of rigorous and objective analysis of social enterprises. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience conducting investment due diligence
• Understands financial statements and projections, and has created, analyzed, and examined potential investees on both in a professional capacity
• Ability to analyze financial statements and models, including identification and analysis of key financial metrics relevant to a particular business, and scenario and sensitivity analysis
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide variety of cultural, linguistic, socioeconomic, national, and ethnic backgrounds
• Understands the alignment of this work with the principles of social justice

• Able to effectively establish and maintain working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment

PREFERRED

• Experience working with an impact investment firm or impact investing ecosystem with relevant knowledge and networks
• Experience living and working in the developing world, ideally working directly with a social enterprise

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in business, or related field required
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

5-6 years of experience working in social enterprise ecosystem, impact investing, international development, or related sector
